Texas Floods Destroy 135 Homes in Kerr County, Governor Reports
Swift-moving floodwaters in Kerr County, Texas, have caused significant destruction, with 135 homes either destroyed or heavily damaged, according to Governor Greg Abbott. The flooding, which occurred last week, also impacted 490 additional homes and approximately 100 businesses. The Guadalupe River surged to record levels, peaking at 37.08 feet in Comfort before receding to around 5 feet. Governor Abbott noted that this event surpassed the severity of the July 2025 floods in Kerrville, though the death toll was lower. Downstream areas such as Cotulla, Tilden, and Carrizo Springs remain at risk as floodwaters continue to rise. Meanwhile, state officials are preparing for a tropical system expected to make landfall on the Texas coast Friday morning, signaling the start of hurricane season.
