Marco Rubio Highlights Hezbollah as Obstacle to Israel-Lebanon Peace
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that a peace deal between Israel and Lebanon is achievable, but the presence of Hezbollah remains a significant obstacle. Rubio emphasized that the Lebanese government needs to develop the capability to dismantle Hezbollah to achieve lasting peace. The Lebanese government seeks a permanent agreement with Israel to end the cycle of conflict, while Israel insists on the disarmament of Hezbollah as a condition for peace. Rubio also addressed the ongoing conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, where tensions with Iran have resulted in civilian casualties. He reiterated the U.S. commitment to maintaining freedom of navigation in the region.
