Former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau Highlights Economic Coercion from U.S. and Europe Pushing Canada Towards China
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has highlighted the economic pressures from the U.S. and Europe that nearly pushed Canada into closer economic ties with China. Speaking at CNBC's CONVERGE LIVE in Singapore, Trudeau recounted how Canadian company Bombardier faced significant challenges due to competitive pressures from U.S. and European firms, Boeing and Airbus. Bombardier, which manufactures private jets, was unable to sell its C Series commercial jets due to these pressures. As a result, Chinese investors offered substantial financial backing to Bombardier, which Trudeau described as a 'dump truck full of money.' This situation arose when Bombardier's negotiations with Airbus and Boeing fell through, leading to potential partnerships with Chinese investors. Trudeau intervened at the 2017 G7 Summit, urging leaders like Macron, Merkel, and President Trump to reconsider their stance, warning that their actions were driving Canada into China's economic sphere.
