Rights Groups File Lawsuit Against Trump Administration Over ICC Sanctions
Four prominent human rights organizations have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging the sanctions imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and associated entities. The lawsuit, filed by The American Friends Service Committee, the Centre for Constitutional Rights, Human Rights Watch, and the Open Society Institute, argues that these sanctions infringe upon the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens and groups, including freedom of speech and due process. The sanctions, which were part of an executive order issued by President Trump, target ICC officials and those supporting the court's investigations, particularly in cases involving alleged war crimes by Israeli and U.S. personnel. The lawsuit claims that the sanctions are based on a fabricated national emergency and have hindered the groups' ability to conduct human rights work.
