Swedish Coast Guard Seizes Tanker in Baltic Sea Over Sanctions Violations
The Swedish Coast Guard has seized a tanker in the Baltic Sea, identified as part of Russia's shadow fleet, which is used to circumvent Western sanctions. The vessel, named Jin Hui, was boarded in Swedish territorial waters south of Trelleborg. Authorities suspect the ship is sailing under a false flag and lacks seaworthiness, as per international regulations. The tanker is listed on several sanctions lists, including those of the European Union and Britain. This action is part of a broader European effort to disrupt the shadow fleet, which Moscow allegedly uses to fund its ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Sweden has already stopped five vessels this year on similar grounds, opening criminal proceedings against some crew members.
