U.S. Navy Seizes Iranian Cargo Ship Amid Rising Tensions in Gulf of Oman
The United States Navy has seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship, the Touska, in the Gulf of Oman. The vessel was intercepted by the USS Spruance after allegedly ignoring multiple warnings and attempting to bypass a U.S.-led naval blockade of Iranian ports. The blockade, part of President Trump's 'Peace Through Strength' doctrine, restricts vessels from entering or leaving Iranian ports without American clearance. The Touska was suspected of carrying illicit cargo and was already under U.S. Treasury sanctions for previous illegal activities. The seizure marks the first physical interception since the blockade policy was implemented earlier this month. The incident has escalated maritime tensions in the region, with Iran accusing the U.S. of piracy and threatening to respond.
