Urban Artists Revitalize UNESCO Heritage Ironworks in Germany
The Völklinger Hütte, a former ironworks in Germany and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is hosting the Urban Art Biennale 2026. This event features 50 urban artists from 17 countries who are transforming the industrial site with their art. The Biennale, which has become a biennial tradition, showcases installations that utilize the site's vast spaces and historical ambiance. Notable works include Tomas Lacque's installation evoking fossil-fueled mobility and Ampparito's large-scale text art. The site, preserved since its closure in 1986, offers a unique backdrop for contemporary art, blending the beauty of decay with modern creativity.
