Bronx Building Fire Results in Two Deaths and Multiple Injuries
A devastating fire broke out in a century-old building in the Bronx, New York, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 11 others. The fire occurred in a five-story, mixed-use building on East 187th Street, which housed commercial businesses. Over 270 firefighters and EMS workers responded to the scene. The building's age and lack of fireproofing, along with numerous voids, made firefighting efforts challenging. The fire started on the first floor and quickly spread upwards, causing significant structural damage, including the collapse of the roof and stairwell. Firefighters had to rescue several tenants trapped in the building, including individuals stuck on fire escapes.
