Nick Reiner's Lawyers Claim He Has Not Received Funds from $1.6 Million Family Trust
Nick Reiner, currently awaiting trial in connection with the murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has reportedly not received any funds from his $1.6 million family trust, according to his attorneys. The trust, established by his parents in 1993, names Nick as the sole beneficiary. His lawyers, Anita P. Wu and Geoffrey A. Neri, filed legal documents arguing that Nick has been unable to access even $5 from the trust, preventing him from purchasing basic necessities in jail or retaining new criminal defense counsel. They contend that a substantial payment of at least $558,000 became due to Nick on his 30th birthday in September 2023, when his parents were still alive and he had not been accused of any crime. The attorneys also argue that California’s 'slayer statute,' previously cited by the successor trustee, Jodi Pais Montgomery, to withhold funds, does not apply to money that was due to Nick before his parents' deaths.
