Drone Incidents in Bulgaria and Germany Heighten Security Concerns Amid Ukraine Conflict
Recent drone incidents in Bulgaria and Germany have raised security concerns as tensions escalate due to Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. In Bulgaria, a drone exploded near the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, close to the Romanian border. Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev confirmed the explosion, noting that it occurred near a critical gas pipeline linking Turkiye to Ukraine. The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence suggested the drone was likely a Maya decoy drone used by Ukrainian forces, although there is no indication the incident was intentional. In Germany, drones were spotted at a military base in Mechernich and near Leipzig/Halle airport, a NATO logistics hub. These incidents have intensified fears that Russia's conflict with Ukraine is spilling over into NATO territories.
