Nigeria Joins International Energy Agency Family, Deepening Global Energy Cooperation

Nigeria has officially joined the International Energy Agency (IEA) Family as an Association country, marking a significant development in international energy cooperation. This milestone was solidified during a landmark visit to Abuja by IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol, where he met with Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo. During the visit, Dr. Birol and Minister Ekpo signed the first IEA-Nigeria Joint Work Programme. This program outlines a roadmap for enhanced collaboration in critical areas such as energy security, investment, data and statistics, energy efficiency, and clean cooking.
