Miami Shores Detective Arrested in $1 Million Fraud Scheme Targeting Senior Citizens
A Miami Shores Police Department detective, Shmueal Mauda, 36, of Pembroke Pines, has been arrested in connection with a $1 million fraud scheme. The scheme primarily targeted a senior citizen in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, but authorities have identified a large number of additional victims across the United States. Mauda, also known as Sam Mauda, was taken into custody in Davie, Florida, along with two co-defendants, Elisha Mauda, 39, and Brent Small, 58, of Airmont, New York. The arrests followed an extensive investigation involving over 50 search warrants, which allowed detectives to trace the electronically moved stolen money through multiple companies and bank accounts. The Davie Police Department and the FBI and United States Postal Service cooperated in the investigation, revealing parallel investigations involving the same suspects and numerous victims. Detective Mauda has been placed on unpaid leave from the Miami Shores Police Department.
