Former UN Security Council President Warns Taiwan Remains Asia's Most Dangerous Issue
Kishore Mahbubani, a former president of the UN Security Council and veteran Singaporean diplomat, has identified Taiwan as the most dangerous flashpoint in Asia. Speaking at the inaugural Penang Peace Dialogue in Malaysia, Mahbubani asserted that Asia, despite comprising over half the global population, continues to be affected by 'mental colonization.' He noted that Asian nations initially failed to challenge Western-dominated narratives after gaining independence, a trend that persisted for decades. However, Mahbubani believes a significant historical reversal is underway, with Western states losing confidence and Asian states gaining it. He emphasized that this power shift towards Asia has not yet reached a tipping point where Asian states hold the greatest global influence, comparable to the current Western dominance. Asia, home to China and India, accounts for approximately 60% of the world's population.
