Romanian Treasures Stolen from Dutch Museum, Thieves Sentenced to Prison
Three men have been sentenced to 47 months in prison for stealing Romanian national treasures from a Dutch museum. The Northern Netherlands District Court handed down the sentences for the theft of a Romanian gold helmet and bracelets from the Drents Museum in January 2025. These artifacts, significant to Romania's Dacia civilization, were on loan for an exhibition. The court emphasized the cultural importance of these items, which were insured for 5.7 million euros but deemed priceless. Two of the bracelets and the helmet have been recovered, while the third bracelet remains missing. The theft involved a homemade firework bomb and sledgehammer to break into the museum.
