Newport News Police Arrest Hampton Man in May Homicide and Home Invasion
Newport News police have arrested Carlos Demond Rogers, a 47-year-old Hampton man, in connection with a homicide and home invasion that occurred on May 15. Rogers faces charges including first-degree murder, robbery, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. The incident took place around 3:47 p.m. in the 1300 block of Roanoke Avenue, a residential area in the city’s Reed neighborhood. Officers responded to reports of a home invasion and shooting, where they discovered 42-year-old Evelyn Dixon with multiple gunshot wounds. Dixon, a Newport News resident, was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The arrest was made possible through the use of forensic analysis, license plate readers, and other technological tools employed by law enforcement.
