California Lawmakers Advance Bills to Regulate Neurotechnology and Brain Data Privacy
California lawmakers are actively pursuing legislation to regulate neurotechnology and protect brain data privacy. Two years ago, the state extended digital privacy law protections to brain data. This year, a bill aimed at restricting how employers use such data has cleared the Assembly and is progressing through the Senate. Additionally, another measure blocking the sale of brain data and other sensitive personal information is also advancing. These legislative efforts come as new privacy agency rules, set to take effect in January, will further protect individuals from businesses using AI, including brain data, to make significant decisions about their lives, particularly in the workplace.
