David Venturella Appointed as Acting ICE Director Amidst Policy Shift
David Venturella, a seasoned immigration official, is set to become the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as announced by a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson. Venturella, who has a history with ICE and previously worked for the Geo Group, a major private prison company, will take over from Todd Lyons. Lyons, who has been overseeing the Trump administration's mass deportation strategy, will step down on May 31. The agency has not had a Senate-confirmed leader since the Obama administration. Venturella's appointment comes as the Trump administration seeks to modify its approach to immigration enforcement, with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin advocating for a 'quiet' yet aggressive strategy on arrests.
