Gov. Reynolds Enacts Agriculture and Water-Quality Legislation Impacting Iowa's Environmental and Farming Sectors
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed several significant bills into law, focusing on agriculture and environmental issues. Among these is House File 2771, which includes the 'Farm to Faucet' water-quality initiative, representing a $319 million investment over 12 years to enhance Iowa's water quality. This initiative includes a $25 million investment for Central Iowa Water Works to improve nitrate-removal capabilities and a $10 million revolving loan fund for water infrastructure upgrades. Additionally, the legislation redirects funds from the Water Quality Financing Program to other effective initiatives and establishes the Greater Des Moines Watershed Program. Senate File 2465, known as 'The Iowa Farm Act,' was also signed, making the Choose Iowa program permanent and expanding agricultural tourism laws. Another bill, Senate File 2493, exempts ethanol blends above 85% from state excise tax, promoting ethanol use in agricultural equipment.
