Arizona Faces Major Water Cuts Amid Colorado River Drought
Arizona is set to lose one-third of its Colorado River water supply over the next two years due to worsening drought conditions, according to recent federal announcements. The cuts could escalate to a complete shutoff if the drought persists. The Colorado River, which supports 40 million people across seven western states, is at record-low levels, with its largest reservoirs, Lakes Mead and Powell, severely depleted. Arizona officials have expressed concerns about the economic and environmental impacts, with some threatening legal action against the federal government. The Central Arizona Project, a key water supply system for Phoenix and surrounding areas, is expected to be among the hardest hit.
