Crystal Bridges Museum Expands to Enhance Art Experience and Community Engagement
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, is unveiling a significant expansion, adding 114,000 square feet to its existing structure. Designed by Safdie Architects, the expansion includes new gallery spaces, a Learning and Engagement Hub, and additional public gathering areas. The museum, founded by Alice Walton, aims to integrate art into everyday experiences by placing artworks in unexpected locations throughout the facility. The expansion also introduces new areas of collecting, focusing on craft and Indigenous art, which are now featured prominently in all gallery spaces. This development is part of the museum's mission to broaden the understanding of American art and support underrepresented artists.
