UN Security Council to Address Russian Aerial Assault on Ukraine in Emergency Session
The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency session on Monday in response to a massive Russian aerial attack on Ukraine. This meeting, requested by Kyiv, follows one of the largest combined Russian air assaults of the year, which targeted residential areas, civilian infrastructure, and energy facilities across multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kamianske. Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept a significant number of the 729 aerial weapons launched, but several missiles and drones caused deaths, injuries, and significant destruction. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized the need for sustained international pressure on Russia to restore respect for the UN Charter and support President Volodymyr Zelensky's peace proposal.
