U.S. Sinks Floating Fuel Station Supporting Los Choneros Drug Trafficking in Eastern Pacific
The U.S. Southern Command announced the sinking of a floating fuel station in the Eastern Pacific that was supporting the drug trafficking activities of the Los Choneros organization. This operation, carried out by the Joint Task Force-Western Hemisphere (JTF-WHEM), involved intercepting multiple vessels configured as a refueling station for illicit drug trafficking. U.S. intelligence confirmed that these vessels were operating in support of Los Choneros, identified as a violent narcoterrorist organization in Ecuador. The individuals found on the main vessel were transferred to Ecuadorian authorities. Following the evacuation of the crew and clearance of the ship, U.S. forces proceeded to sink both the main vessel and its connected support ships.
