Energy Secretary Chris Wright made headlines after a controversial statement during a groundbreaking ceremony for a new natural gas pipeline project. The project, known as the Northeast Supply Enhancement Pipeline, aims to transport natural gas from Pennsylvania to New York City and Long Island. During his speech, Wright stated that the country 'looks like we’re going in the wrong direction,' which raised eyebrows. He later clarified, suggesting that despite appearances, the direction was not incorrect. The Energy Department subsequently released edited excerpts of Wright's speech, omitting the contentious comment. The project, developed by the Williams Companies, is an expansion of an existing pipeline system and was prioritized by the Trump administration. It had previously faced environmental opposition but was pushed forward under President Trump's emphasis on oil and gas infrastructure development.
