Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani to Move from Queens Apartment to Gracie Mansion for Family Safety
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, announced his decision to move from his rent-stabilized apartment in Astoria, Queens, to Gracie Mansion in Manhattan. This move is set to occur after his inauguration. Mamdani, who has been residing in a $2,300 one-bedroom apartment, cited family safety as the primary reason for the relocation. Gracie Mansion, located at East End Avenue and 88th Street, is the traditional residence for New York City mayors. Mamdani expressed mixed emotions about leaving his current home, highlighting the personal and community experiences he and his wife, Rama, have enjoyed. However, he emphasized the necessity of focusing on the affordability agenda that New Yorkers supported during his campaign.
