Thailand Reduces Visa-Free Stay for U.S. Citizens to 30 Days, Impacting Longer Trips
Thailand has reduced the visa-free stay for U.S. passport holders from an automatic 60 days to 30 days. This change means that American travelers planning trips longer than one month will need to adjust their travel arrangements. While a typical short vacation combining destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket can still fit within the new 30-day limit, longer stays now require additional planning. Travelers can apply for an extension of up to another 30 days from Thai immigration officials after entering the country, though these extensions are not guaranteed and are granted at the discretion of immigration authorities. Alternatively, individuals planning extended visits can apply for an appropriate visa through Thailand's e-Visa system before their travel.
