Jewish Communities Commemorate Liberation and Rescue Day Amid Rising Antisemitism
Jewish communities worldwide marked Liberation and Rescue Day, commemorating 81 years since Nazi Germany's surrender and the rescue of Jews who survived Nazi persecution. The events, held on 26 Iyar, were themed 'From generation to generation in the face of antisemitism' and took place amid growing concerns over rising antisemitic incidents following the Israel-Hamas conflict. Memorial and prayer events were organized in various countries, including the United States, with participation from rabbis, Holocaust survivors, and public officials. In Israel, a significant event was held at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, where participants engaged in a Mishnah study project and recited memorial prayers. Similar gatherings occurred in Moscow, Djerba, and other cities, with messages from leaders like President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasizing the importance of remembrance and gratitude.
