The Indian cricket team suffered a minor setback ahead of their departure to Japan for the Asian Games 2026 as several players received wrong-sized kits
for the marquee event. After an exchange between the BCCI and JSW Inspire, the kit supplier associated with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), most of the players received their kits; however, some members of the squad are still awaiting the correct jersey. The issue reportedly happened due to the requirement for two different jerseys. Indian cricket team will play a T20I against Japan on September 22 before the Asian Games. For the Japan T20I, India will use the official kit and will then switch to the official Asian Games jersey when the tournament begins on September 28. "There was a sizing issue in the kits of cricketers; the majority of them have been rectified. There are a few left, and they will be delivered to the team shortly. With players needing two different jerseys there (one for bilateral and another for the Asian Games), this can happen," an IOA source told PTI.
Team India To Stay In Separate Hotel
Meanwhile, the report also stated that the men's team will be staying at a separate hotel arranged by the BCCI rather than using the accommodation provided by the IOA. The development comes after several athletes faced accommodation and logistical issues upon arrival in Japan. The report added that the accommodation assigned for the team was unstable due to the limited space for storing players' kit bags. However, the women's team will be staying at the accommodation provided by the IOA.“The women's team accommodation was never an issue. The rooms provided by the organisers for the men's team did not even have space to keep the kit bags. There are not many big hotels there, but the BCCI has managed to make its own arrangement shortly before their departure to Japan,” the source said as per PTI.
JSW Inspire's Clarification
JSW Sports clarified the situation and claimed that the kits were provided to all sporting federations well in advance.
“It has come to our attention that certain sections of the media are attributing the issue of Indian contingent not getting the ceremonial kit in time to JSW Sports. We would like to clarify that the responsibility of production and handover of the ceremonial kit was not with JSW Inspire. We have provided the performance kits for the players to the respective federations in a phased manner. More specifically, the kit for both the men’s & women’s cricket teams have been handed over to the respective managers well in advance. They have confirmed that the kits are in order and that there are no issues. The men’s team will be wearing the JSW Inspire kit when they travel from Tokyo to Nagoya on 26th September. JSW Inspire remains committed to uphold the standards and values of the Asian Games," said a spokesperson for JSW Sports.
