Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel took a shot at the Pakistan cricket team following the announcement of the Cricket World Cup 2027 schedule by the International
Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday. 12 teams, split into Groups A and B, will compete in the main event. There are six teams in each group. Pakistan has been placed in Group A with Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Australia, and India. The five teams in the group will be joined by Qualifier A. Each group's top three teams advance to the Super 7 stage. The remaining seventh slot will go to the top fourth-place team from both groups. The teams will compete in a round-robin style because there will be no points transferred from the group stage to the Super 7. From October 25 until November 14, each team will play six additional games. The Super 7 phase's top four teams advance to the semifinals.
Parthiv Patel Trolls Pakistan Cricket
Parthiv took a cheeky dig at the Pakistani cricket team while talking about the schedule on Star Sports.
"Teams think differently according to their mindset. India must be thinking that they will at least reach the semi-finals. Meanwhile, after looking at this schedule, Pakistan must be thinking, 'We will surely reach the Super 7 stage, and then we will see what happens from there'. Pakistan must be happy to see this schedule. They must be thinking that they will make it to the second round," said Parthiv.
Australia defeated India by six wickets in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad, making them the reigning champions. With four victories and five defeats in nine games, Pakistan has placed fifth.
India will play Australia in a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final in Cape Town as part of the Cricket World Cup 2027 group stage on October 7. Co-host Zimbabwe will play Qualifier A in Bulawayo, while South Africa will start their campaign against New Zealand in Cape Town on October 9. The much-awaited match between India and Pakistan will take place in Johannesburg on October 10.
