Ramit Desai and Shrawni Deshmukh were crowned champions in the Open Mixed Doubles event at the Paddle Pulse Open, an Indian Pickleball Association (IPA)
recognised PWR 200 event, in Pune on September 13. They got the better of Vivin Rana and Arpana Choudhary in the final to lift the title. The Open category tends to attract some of the strongest pairs at the event, and this final reflected that quality. Desai and Deshmukh played with a lot of composure, mixing steady defence with sharp attacking play to see off a game Rana-Choudhary combination. Rana and Choudhary had a good run to reach the final and gave their opponents plenty to think about, but couldn't quite find a way past the eventual champions on the day. Desai and Deshmukh, for their part, stayed switched on through the tricky moments and didn't let the occasion get the better of them. Even though they fell short in the final, Rana and Choudhary's run to the summit clash is a solid showing. Getting this far in the Open Mixed Doubles category, which usually draws tough competition, says a lot about the level they're playing at right now. The final added another good contest to the day's proceedings at the Paddle Pulse Open, with the Open category once again showing why it's one of the most keenly watched at the event. Desai and Deshmukh walk away with the Open Mixed Doubles crown, while Rana and Choudhary will take confidence from their run as they look to go a step further in future events.
