soil. The home team controlled the game for long stretches, but struggled to finish. The Canada team then had to rely on a late goal from substitute Cyle Larin to avoid an upsetting defeat on opening day. This was the first point that Canada has ever secured in the history of FIFA World Cups. Despite a roaring home crowd cheering them on, Canada fell behind early. In the 21st minute, Bosnia and Herzegovina shocked the home fans. Following a corner kick, the Canadian defense lost their focus. The loose ball, courtesy a smart flick from Sead Kolasinac, found Jovo Lukic, who easily headed it past the Canadian goalkeeper to give the visitors a surprise 1-0 lead. This was Lukic's first-ever international goal of his career.
Canada Steal Late Equalizer
For most of the game, Canada completely controlled the ball but struggled to actually score. Attackers Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi had decent chances in the first half but could not put the ball in the net, missing some easy and direct chances.

Just three minutes later, Larin received a quick pass inside the penalty area. He spun around and fired a powerful shot that took a slight deflection off a defender before flying into the back of the net. The stadium erupted as Canada finally equalized.
Canada pushed hard for a winning goal during the six minutes of added time, but Bosnia and Herzegovina remained solid in tbeir defence.
