In a shocking event, Denmark's Christian Eriksen collapsed on the ground while clutching his chest in the 65th minute of the international friendly against
Ukraine. The situation had echoes of Eriksen’s on-field collapse following a cardiac arrest during the European Championship in 2021, and left everyone concerned. The former Manchester United and Tottenham player previously suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 encounter against Finland in Copenhagen in June 2021. The footage from the match showed Eriksen lying on the ground, surrounded by worried players as Ukraine medical staff called for the medical staff to rush to the ground. 10 minutes later, the Danish Federation released a statement on X and provided a comforting update, saying that Eriksen was conscious and doing well.

"Christian is doing well and left the field himself. As I see it, the pacemaker is beating as it should," Denmark team physician Morten Boesen said.
He added that Eriksen will undergo further examination at the hospital to find out what caused the incident.
“Now he needs to be examined further in the hospital to find out what caused the incident,” Boesen added
“We are in constant contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to greet all the players and say that he was OK.”
Given the situation, the match was called off by the match referee in the 79th minute, with Denmark 2-1 ahead.
Meanwhile, following the incident against Finland in Copenhagen, Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, and he returned on the field less than a year after the incident. He played for Brentford and Manchester United before joining German club Wolfsburg in 2025.

Meanwhile, football clubs reacted to Eriksen's collapse and wished him speedy recovery. His former club Manchester United, wrote, "Everybody at Manchester United is encouraged by Denmark's update on Christian Eriksen following today's abandoned friendly against Ukraine," a post on X read.
"The club is sending strength and love to Christian and the Eriksen family as we await further news."
Similarly, Wolfsburg took to X and expressed concerns at the incident, while extending support to the star.
"We're thinking of you, Christian," adding that they were in close contact with the Danish federation.
"All the best and a speedy recovery," the post added.
