The Portugal Football Federation (PFF) punished Cristiano Ronaldo for his antics in the September-October international break after a feud with new coach
Jorge Jesus. The 41-year-old left the camp midway with two matches remaining despite the 2016 European champions winning their first two games of the ongoing UEFA Nations League campaign. However, the PFF gave Ronaldo a lenient sanction with a 30-day suspension and only a €255 (₹27,141) fine. “Accordingly, and on the grounds set out above, the Disciplinary Council – Non-Professional Section – of the Portuguese Football Federation hereby decides, in these proceedings, to uphold the charges in their entirety and, consequently, find the accused, Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, guilty of committing, on one occasion and intentionally, the disciplinary offence provided for and punishable under Article 160(1) of the RDFPF. As a result, he is handed a 30-day suspension and an additional fine of 2.5 units, amounting to €255 (two hundred and fifty-five euros)," said a statement by PFF's Disciplinary Council (CD). While the monetary fine is evidently not a big concern for Ronaldo, even the suspension will not see the Portugal captain miss any games. The reigning UEFA Nations League winners' next game in the competition is scheduled for November 14 and 17 against Denmark and Wales, which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will be available for selection. All eyes will be on Jesus' squad selection for the November international break and if he selects him and whether the manager and coach can sort out their differences. For those unversed, Ronaldo was not happy with Jesus' decision not to use him in the 2-1 away victory against Norway, where he remained an unused substitute despite being asked to warm up. In a statement issued earlier this month, Ronaldo accepted his mistake and claimed he deserved to be punished. However, he did not mince his words against Jesus despite the duo working together at Al Nassr only last season.
