Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh to win the Asian Games bronze medal. Sri Lanka won a silver medal in the previous edition but were knocked out of the final
after losing to India. They were bowled out for a mere 45 and drew massive criticism. But the team bounced back in style to claim a special bronze medal. Batting first, Sri Lanka were in all sorts of trouble in the powerplay, reeling at 21-4. Ashen Bandara and Sahan Arachchige steadied the ship slightly and took the score past the fifty-run mark before Bandara departed, leaving Sri Lanka in trouble at 54-5 in the 11th over. Tharindu Ratnayake came in as a game changer for Sri Lanka and played a masterful innings of 65 in 32 balls, including seven fours and five sixes and along with Sahan Arachchige, who scored 33, took the team to a powerful score of 165-9. This was always going to be a tough chase for Bangladesh on a pitch which assisted spinners. Bangladesh never really turned up with the bat and were bowled out for 102 in the 18th over, with Nuwan Tushara, Tharindu Ratnayake Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, and Wanuja Sahan taking two golds each.
