One of India’s prominent first-class cricketers, Wasim Jaffer is known for his witty mouth, often hitting back at trolls and pulling the legs of cricketers
Cricket has always been hailed as a gentleman’s game, but in the history of the sport, there have been many players who have been known for having light-hearted character, cracking jokes, making funny gestures and what not on and off the field. One such character is India’s former cricketer Wasim Jaffer, one of the finest first-class cricketers ever to grace the game, who is now known for his notorious words.
Be it hitting trolls on social media platforms or giving tough yet funny replies to criticism of other cricket, Wasim Jaffer’s words and posts on X often become headlines on news websites. As we celebrate Jaffer’s birthday, let us look at some of his humorous comments and posts that made cricket banter enjoyable.
If you know, you know…
Before the World Cup, PAK had boycotted the match against India, but after a series of failed negotiations with the ICC, PAK was left with no choice but to play the game against India. This is not the first time PAK has done something like this, but eventually, they have had to reverse their decision.
On social media platform X, Jaffa poked PAK and uploaded this picture –
I'll put it in Ashes' terms for you..
Jaffa and Michael Vaughan maintain a unique bond due to their constant engagement in verbal sparring on social media. In 2024, when India had lost 2-0 against Sri Lanka on the island country, Vaughan had taunted Jaffer by saying, “Hi Wasim..What was the recent ODI series result in Sri Lanka? I have been away and missed it..Hope all is well”
Wassim Jaffer got back to Vaughan by saying, “I'll put it in Ashes terms for you Michael. Ind won as many games in that series as the Tests Eng have won in Aus in last 12 years.”

A good sport
Wassim Jaffer isn’t only talented at hitting others with his words in a jolly manner. He regularly engages in self-mockery, demonstrating his good nature. For example, when Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a maiden Test century on his debut, Jaffer had posted this meme trolling himself –

Through this meme, Jaffer recalled his debut, where he scored only four runs in the first innings followed by six runs in the second. Compared to him, Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, who played for Mumbai just like Jaffer, made centuries on debut.
As Jaffer grows a year older, we hope his humorous side doesn’t fade away because in the serious business of cricket, which is getting political day by day, a dose of laughter is often needed.
