The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League displayed several positive performances. However, a number of negative performances led to unwanted records
The Indian Premier League (IPL) ended on a high with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting their second trophy. Their second consecutive victory has undoubtedly put us in a new era of RCB, whereas in terms of individual performances, the tournament saw several mighty run scorers and wicket takers. However, on the final day, it was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who stole the limelight and multiple awards.
Unfortunately, the IPL wasn’t just about positive outcomes, as several teams and players faltered, setting unwanted records.

Delhi Capitals set an unwanted record when the team scored only 13 runs in the power play in a match. In a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Capitals were reduced to 13 runs for 6 wickets, and for a moment, it seemed they might break RCB’s record of 49 runs. However, the team managed to avoid that embarrassing record by scoring 75 runs.

Mumbai Indians registered their biggest defeat in runs. In a match against the Chennai Super Kings, the Indians lost by 103 runs, their biggest defeat by runs since 2008. In fact, the Indians have never lost a match by 100 runs before, but this embarrassing record came in front of their home fans at the Wankhede Stadium.
Chennai Super Kings’ biggest defeat
What Chennai did to Mumbai, the Gujarat Titans did to Chennai. The Titans defeated the Kings by a significant margin of 89 runs, marking Chennai’s largest defeat by runs in their IPL history. Chennai’s previous largest defeat by runs occurred in 2013 against the Mumbai Indians, when the team lost a game by 60 runs.
Hit wicket
HOW UNFORTUNATE! 🤯

Probably the only way to end Sai Sudharsan's streak of five 50-plus scores 🫣

Sai Sudharsan became the first player in the history of the IPL to be dismissed because of a hit wicket twice. The first incident occurred in the qualifier I match against RCB when he was batting at 14. His bizarre dismissal became one of the reasons behind GT’s defeat in that game. What shocked the IPL fraternity was that Sudharsan got out in the same fashion in Qualifier II against the Rajasthan Royals. Fortunately, he had scored 58 runs by then, which helped the Titans win the game and reach the final.
34 sixes
Last but not least, Anshul Kamboj also created an unwanted record by leaking as many as 34 sixes throughout the season. In 2025, Rashid Khan conceded 33 sixes, but this season Kamboj has conceded 34.
