Despite winning the World Cup merely 14 months ago, several players from the 2024 squad aren’t part of the Asia Cup 2025
India is seeking back-to-back glory
in the T20 format, having won the T20 World Cup in June 2024. Now, it aims to lift the Asia Cup trophy in September 2025, which is also being played in the T20 format. However, despite the team reaping success with the 2024 squad, the 2025 Asia Cup squad of India looks different.
In the following paragraphs, let’s look at players who were in the World Cup-winning squad but aren’t part of the Asia Cup 2025.
Rohit Sharma
The then captain Rohit Sharma wasted no time in retiring from the format. Following the team's World Cup victory, Rohit Sharma made a bold decision to exit the format by retiring from T20 international cricket. Therefore, he is not in the Asia Cup squad.
Virat Kohli
Teammate and close friend Virat Kohli also followed Rohit’s retirement decision. Kohli, too, retired from T20 international cricket, and therefore, he is not in India’s Asia Cup squad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been left out of the squad to fit Abhishek Sharma. The selectors felt that, given Sharma knows a thing or two about bowling, it gives the team a balanced advantage.
Rishabh Pant
Tragedy struck Rishabh Pant again when he suffered an injury against England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Given his fractured foot, he has been sidelined from the Asia Cup 2025.

Ravindra Jadeja was the third player from the T20 World Cup-winning squad to retire from T20 international cricket. After India’s victory against South Africa, Jadeja took to social platforms and announced his retirement, joining the duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Despite being in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, Yuzvendra Chahal did not get the opportunity to play a single game, even though he was the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2024. Strong competition from the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel dwindled his position in the team. Overall, Chahal has not played in an international match since September 2023.
Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj’s omission from the Asia Cup 2025 has been the biggest shocker for the Indian cricket fans. Despite his heroic efforts in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy against England, the responsibility of the pace attack was bestowed on Jasprit Bumrah, who is expected to be supported by the likes of Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana. Siraj also picked 16 wickets in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).
India’s Asia Cup 2025 Squad
The players who made it to the Asia Cup 2025 squad are Suryakumar Yadav (c), Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Jitesh Sharma, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, and Rinku Singh.
India kicks off its Asia Cup campaign against host United Arab Emirates on 10 September, followed by two more group stage games against PAK and Oman.
