The Mumbai Indians clearly have an upper hand over the Kolkata Knight Riders
Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders are set to resume their long-term
rivalry in the Indian Premier League on Sunday evening, with the Riders hoping to win the game. The Mumbai Indians have a clear advantage over the Riders, having won 24 out of 35 matches played against each other.
Who will win the Sunday clash? It’s difficult to determine, but we can certainly look back at the rivalry and highlight some of the best team and individual performances.
Best team score total
Andre Russell comes in at No. 3 and smashes his highest score of the season!

Even though the Kolkata Knight Riders are miles behind from the Mumbai Indians in terms of victories, the Riders posted the highest total in the rivalry. In 2019, the Riders scored 232 runs at the Eden Gardens against the Indians while losing only two wickets. Shubman Gill had scored 76 runs in 45 balls, whereas Chris Lynn made 54 runs in 29 balls, and Andre Russell added 80 off 40 balls. In response, the Mumbai Indians fought back and came close, scoring 198 runs, but lost by 31 runs.
Best batting performances
A century tops every other performance, and in the rivalry of Mumbai and Kolkata, two centuries stand at the top.
Rohit Sharma’s 1st IPL hundred that too against bowlers like Brett Lee, Shakib, Sunil Narine, Kallis.🐐

Young Rohit Sharma was something else man🥶🔥

In 2012, the year Kolkata Knight Riders won its first-ever title, the 58th match of the season saw Rohit Sharma thrash the opposition bowlers. He made 109 runs in 60 balls at a strike rate of 181.66, including 12 boundaries and five maximums, enabling the Indians to win the game by 27 runs.
In contrast, Venkatesh Iyer achieved a remarkable feat in 2023, scoring a century at the Wankhede, with 104 runs off 51 balls at a strike rate of 203.92. Unfortunately, this game, too, went in the Indians' favour, and Iyer’s efforts went in vain.

He equals the quickest five-wicket haul in IPL history. Andre Russell, WOW! #KKRvMI | #IPL2021
Moving on to bowling performance, it is no surprise that Kolkata has had the best show with the ball, thanks to Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. In 2021, Russell took five wickets for 15 runs, whereas in a game in 2012, Narine took four wickets for 14 runs. Narine also holds the third-best bowling performance between the two sides, having taken four wickets for 20 runs in 2014.
Despite the Mumbai Indians’ dominance, the rivalry with the Kolkata Knight Riders is one of the best in the IPL's history, and therefore, we expect another cracking match between the five-time IPL champions and the three-time IPL champions.
