We understand that such a correlation is of no use until the team makes some massive changes. However, it is quite a coincidence that deserves your attention
The Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting their second IPL title. However, within days of the tournament’s conclusion, teams and fans have started thinking of what’s next for the 2027 season. Teams that faced difficulties this season must make significant changes during the December auction if they want to improve next season.
Speaking about changes and better performance in 2027, we feel the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could play in their fifth final if an eerie coincidence occurs, which has happened to the purple-coloured outfit since 2011.

It started in 2010, when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their first title in the IPL, followed by consecutive titles in 2011. Guess what happened the next season? CSK reached the final for the third consecutive time in 2012, but instead of winning, they were beaten by Gautam Gambhir’s KKR – the purple team played its first final and won its first IPL title, defeating CSK, who were on course to win their third consecutive title.
KKR’s third final from Mumbai’s back-to-back
KKR won its second title in 2014 within a span of two seasons, and therefore, the coincidence we are highlighting did not hold for the team’s second final and title. However, the coincidence occurred during the team’s third final.
🚨 How Times Change 💔
It was the IPL 2021 Final. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer walked out together as KKR openers for the very last time, putting up a magnificent 91-run partnership. Both smashed half-centuries and yet KKR ultimately finished as runners-up.

The Knight Riders played their IPL final in 2021, once again against the Chennai Super Kings. However, before 2021, the Mumbai Indians won two titles in a row in 2019 and 2020.
The bottom line is that every time a team wins back-to-back titles, KKR and CSK reach the final the following year.
Final before a mega auction
KKR 2024 squad could have won back to back IPL titles if it hadn’t been broken by the mega auction#TATAIPL | #Final | #TheFinalLeap | #RCBvGT pic.twitter.com/6IKc9C3dhl

Not to forget, every time there is a mega auction, including the upcoming one in 2028, KKR creates a brilliant squad in the season before the mega auction and then dismantles it. Therefore, we firmly believe KKR will once again reach its peak in 2027, possibly lift the trophy, and then fall apart again in 2028. However, the coincidence will only remain intact if CSK also reaches the final in 2028 against KKR.
