In the third and final session on day one of the first Test in the two-match series against South Africa, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 16th five-wicket haul in his career at the Eden Gardens
in Kolkata. The 31-year-old registered figures of 5/27 in 14 overs with five maidens, to play a key role in bundling out the Proteas for just 159 runs in 55 overs on what was expected to be a very good batting pitch.
After Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first, South Africa got off to a flyer with Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton sharing a 57-run stand in just under 11 overs before Jasprit Bumrah bowled an impressive delivery to get through the defenses of the latter. In his next over, the right-arm pacer got the big wicket of Aiden Markram (31 off 48 with five fours and a six) on a brute of a delivery nicked to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who took a sharp catch.
During the second session, Bumrah bowled an extended spell and trapped Tony de Zorzi, who had looked relatively settled at the crease. The other bowlers also got into the act for the Indian cricket team, namely Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj before the star cricketer cleaned up the tail, dismissing Protea spinners Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj with the latter not troubling the scorers.
