Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced significant backlash from fans after posting a picture with the caption ‘whats the best catch taken ever by a KKR player” after Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Lungi Ngidi,
suffered a serious head injury during their match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 25, 2026. The post was in reference to the injury which occurred while Ngidi attempted a catch which made him topple head over and he sustained severe head injury which led to the arrival of ambulance on the pitch itself.
Fans and X users called the post ‘tone deaf’ and ‘insensitive’ as it mocked the seriousness of the injury which looked extremely serious on the field. The controversy stemmed from KKR's own struggles in the IPL 2026 season, having lost five of their first six matches. Fans viewed it poorly timed given the team's dismal form and mounting injury list, including the absence of key players like Harshit Rana and Akash Deep. The post was deleted within minutes following the surge of negative comments. The post was then replaced with a ‘Get well soon’ from the Knight Riders.
During the DC vs. PBKS match, Ngidi fell heavily on his head while attempting a catch. He was stretchered off in an ambulance, causing a 15-minute halt in play. While intended as a show of sportsmanship, KKR fans flooded the comments with criticism, urging the social media team to "focus on their own team's performance" instead of other franchises. KKR is currently enduring one of its worst starts to a season, sitting near the bottom of the table with only one point from a "No Result" game against PBKS.
