Indian Test captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. Due to this, Gill was ruled out in the middle of the Test match and didn’t come to bat in the second
innings. Now, as India are already trailing by 0-1 in the home Test series against the Proteas, the fans are concerned about Gill’s participation in the second and the final Test match of the series.
The second Test will be played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22nd and 26th. As per India Today, Shubman Gill will travel to Guwahati with Team India ahead of the second Test match against South Africa. However, his participation in the second Test isn't confirmed yet. If this happens, vice-captain Rishabh Pant can be seen taking charge as skipper for the second Test in Guwahati.
India look to avoid series defeat at home
South Africa defeated India by a 30-run margin in the first Test at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series. After restricting the Temba Bavuma-led side to 153 runs in 54 overs on day three, the hosts could not chase the mere 123-run target, courtesy some brilliant bowling from Simon Harmer, thus losing the game by 30 runs.
Now, South Africa just need a win or a draw in the second Test to register their first Test series win in India after 25 years. On the other hand, India, who suffered a humiliating 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand at home, are on the verge of losing another Test series at their own backyard. Now, the hosts can win a series against the Proteas but they need to assure victory in Guwahati to avoid second Test series loss at home for the second time in a span of one year.
