Former Team Indiaspinner Harbhajan Singh is all set to represent Punjab in the upcoming BCCIAnnual General Meeting (AGM). In the convention, five main office-bearers will be elected. Besides Harbhajan,
ex-India skipper Sourav Ganguly will also show up in the meeting as the 53-year-old has been nominated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to represent the state association. As Roger Binny and Arun Dhumal are all set to vacate their posts of BCCI President and Chairman of the IPL Governing Council respectively, elections for the key positions will also be held in the meeting.
This year, Harbhajan Singhwas appointed advisor of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and now, he has been handed the responsibility to be the face of his state’s cricket body. According to the circular delivered to the state associations, the deadline for members to file nominations of their representatives is September 12 while the election officer has stated that the time period to file a nomination application is from September 20 to 21. In case of withdrawals, the participants can opt out by September 23.
Harbhajan Singh’s illustrious cricketing career
Harbhajan Singh started his professional career with Punjab in domestic cricket in 1997-98. Representing his state team in 198 First-Class games, he took 780 wickets. Discussing his records for India, he played 367 international matches and took 711 wickets. During his distinguished career, he also won the T20 World Cup and Cricket World Cup 2011 with India.
In December 2021, he retired from all forms of cricket after delivering his services to Team India for 18 years from 1998 to 2016. After retiring from the sport, he is often seen as a commentator in international matches and other competitive tournaments. Since 2022, he has also been a Member of Parliament from Punjab on the Aam Aadmi Party ticket.
