Former Team Indiaspinner Harbhajan Singh has delivered his opinion on India-Pakistan matches at the time when the relations between the two countries are strained. Following the Pahalgam Attack in April
2025, India avenged the deaths of its 26 citizens through Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan in May. After Operation Sindoor, there was also a call from the Indian public to boycott Pakistan on every front. In July-August, when India Champions and PakistanChampions were scheduled to play against each other twice in the World Championship of Legends, the former boycotted the games and got evicted from the competition. Harbhajan was a member of India Champions’ side which was led by Yuvraj Singh.
On September 11, Harbhajan Singh attended a Society Magazine event and disclosed his views on the Asia Cup 2025 game to be held between the arch-rivals in Dubai on September 14. "Everyone has their own way of thinking and understanding, but I feel till the time relations between the two countries do not improve, cricket and business should not be there as well. But then, that is my thought. If the government says the match can happen, it should happen, but the relations between the two countries should be better," said Harbhajan.
Harbhajan Singh hailed India’s current T20I team
During the event, Harbhajan Singh also appreciated India’s T20I side for recovering from the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and performing extraordinarily in the format. “If there is any team which can beat the Indian team, it is the Indian team itself -- it is such a strong team. Our cricket is at a different level, the way we have made our name... even if Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) are gone, the team is completely ready," added Harbhajan.
Harbhajan also believes Dubai’s pitch will behave similarly to ones in India and spinners will play a massive role in the contest. "Playing in Dubai is like playing at home and home turf. The role of the spinners will be huge and I hope the team brings the cup back," said the T20 World Cup 2007 champion.
