Following the retirement of Rohit Sharma from the longest format of the game, The Indian fans were stuck in a dilemma on who should be taking the throne from one of the most successful captains of the game.
The Indian selectors appointed Shubman Gill to carry on the legacy of the Hitman and lead the young Indian side starting from the test-series against England. The New Indian Captain led the Indian side with fierce attitude and unbreakable spirit which helped the Indian team earn a hard-earned draw in the five match test series.
Former Indian great Mohammad Kaif was in awe with the captaincy and leadership shown by Gill in his debut series as a Captain. In his youtube video reflecting upon the India vs England test series, Kaif stated, "He will get the ODI captaincy as well because we don't know how long Rohit Sharma will continue as captain. Gill is ready to take over. He scores in white-ball. He has performed well as captain here in Tests and led from the front. When you go with a young team, you have to do both things - score with the bat and do well as captain.”
It was a do-or-die game and his body language reflected belief: Mohammad Kaif
Kaif appreciated the composure shown by Gill and did not shy in expressing his opinion that Shubman Gill is ready to be the next white-ball captain for India. The former batsman loved the fact that Gill silenced all the critics who were trolling him on becoming the Captain of India, not only through his captaincy but also his sensational performance with the bat. Kaif highlighted the fact that the young Indian Captain came close to breaking the all time record of Sir Don Bradman.
Further in the video, Kaif added that even though there was high pressure built by the counter-attack of England in the form of Joe Root and Harry Brook. Gill was calm on the field and knew that he was just one moment away from paving their way back into the match. The former Indian Batsman believes that he is the right person to lead India to glory.
