Indian leg-spinner spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who is a part of Haryana’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad, on Thursday said that he will be unable to participate in the team’s final match against Jharkhand
due to being down with dengue and chikungunya. Chahal played the first 3 matches for Haryana in SMAT and took 3 wickets. He did not play the rest of the group stage as well as the super league stage. Haryana suffered a defeat in the SMAT against Jharkhand.
He took it to twitter and put out a tweet on the day of the Final which said “Wishing my team Haryana all the very best for the SMAT finals. I wished to be a part of the team but unfortunately I am down with dengue and chikungunya, which have really taken a toll on my health. The doctors have asked to focus only on rest and recovery. I’ll be back to the field and bowling to my full strength soon,” Chahal posted on X.
Chahal has been out of domestic cricket since November 30. In his post, Chahal did not mention when he would return. However, he is likely to make a comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will start on December 24.
Chahal has been out of the Indian team since last year’s T20 World Cup, and he has not played any match for the senior national team since August 2023. During the recent summer , Chahal represented Northamptonshire while playing county cricket in England. He took 5 wickets on his debut in the One-Day Cup (List A), while his overall economy rate remained below six.
He also performed brilliantly in red-ball cricket, the County Championship Division Two, where he took 19 wickets in four matches and achieved two five-wicket hauls. Since Chahal is not in contention for any of the Indian Squads, his next assignment will be Vijay Hazare and it will be followed by IPL where he will represent PBKS.
