In the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025 final between India and South Africa in Navi Mumbai, the latter looked decent in the majority of the opening powerplay in pursuit of 299-run target.
Captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits delivered a steady start to the side and added 51 runs in nine overs. Both were looking to settle down at the crease but in the 10th over, Brits looked perturbed which led to her dismissal. On the third delivery of the over from pacer Renuka Singh, Brits played a shot towards a short mid-on where Amanjot Kaur was deployed.
Amanjot displayed agility and threw the ball towards the non-striker’s end which led to the direct hit. Brits fell short of the crease and went back to the dugout as the on-field umpire also gave the verdict against the Protea batter. The opener went back to the pavilion with her 23 off 35. Amanjot’s nimbleness delivered the much-needed breakthrough to the hosts.

Nallappureddy Shree Charani delivered the second wicket to India
After Brits' fall, Anneke Bosch was sent to support captain Wolvaardt. However, left-arm spinner Nallappureddy Shree Charani stepped up and trapped Bosch and delivered the second breakthrough to the team. Bosch couldn't score any runs in the final.
After picking up two quick wickets, Indiawill look to build more pressure on the Protea side. On the other hand, Wolvaardt will strive to show nerves of steel and produce an effective knock in the crunch situation. As of writing, South Africa are 89/2 in 16.3 overs, with Wolvaardt (51* off 45) and Sune Luus (10* off 13) at the crease. India will have to get rid of Wolvaardt to be in a commanding position in the match.
