On August 15, 2020, Mahendra Singh Dhoni shocked the cricketing fraternity after he announced his retirement from international cricket via Instagram post. Having played his last international on July
9, 2019 which was the semi-final of the ODI World Cup against New Zealand in Manchester, Dhoni wasn’t seen playing for India for more than a year and then dropped a retirement post out of nowhere leaving his fans shocked.
In his retirement post on Instagram, MS Dhoni shared a video showing a glimpse of some of the key moments of his career along with his teammates with the famous Bollywood song ‘Mai Pal do Pal ka shayar hu’ playing in the background. He shared the post with a caption “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”
MS Dhoni International Cricketing Career
MS Dhoni made his debut for the Indian Cricket Team in an ODI match against Bangladesh in Chattogram on December 23, 2004. Since then, Dhoni went on to play 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is in his 15-year International career from 2004 to 2019 amassing 17266 runs in all three formats combined. He became one of the most successful captain of the Indian team who led the country to several milestones.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India ended up winning the T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. He regarded as the greatest Indian captain. He also emerged as one of the greatest wicketkeepers in the world and is known for his lighting fast stumpings behind the wicket. After retiring from International cricket in 2020, Dhoni still continues to play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
