Star player, Kylian Mbappe returned for France in their 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine at a neutral venue in Poland on Saturday, September 6 (IST). The 26-year-old French forward made
his first appearance in the national colours after his side’s loss to Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. However, the forward starred in his team’s 2-0 win over Ukraine, where he also finished among the goals.
Mbappe, who plays for Real Madrid, played a key role in the World Cup qualifying match as he found the back of the net in the 82nd minute. After the Les Bleus struck early through Michael Olise, Mbappe doubled the lead in the 82nd minute to help his side seal the points and open their World Cup qualifying in style.
Mbappe equals Thiery Henry at second place on France’s all-time scoring list
Elaborating on Mbappe’s 82nd minute strike, he was setup by his Real Madrid teammate Aurelien Tchouameni and finally found the back of the net after multiple counter-attacks. With this, the French forward equalled Thierry Henry at second place in France’s all-time scoring list with 51 international goals each. The duo sit only behind Olivier Giroud, who has 57 goals.
The result has given the 2018 World Champions an edge in Group D, which also includes Iceland and Azerbaijan. France will next host Iceland on Wednesday, September 10 at the Parc des Princes, followed by their match against Azerbaijan scheduled for next month.
