John Cena, the 17-time WWE Champion, is currently in the midst of his 2025 farewell tour in the promotion, creating moments and telling stories in front of his ardent fans to last a lifetime. In a latest
development to that effect, WWE has officially confirmed the date of John Cena’s retirement match, and it is scheduled to happen on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event, streaming exclusively on Peacock.
While the opponent for John Cena’s retirement match is yet to be named, there are only 11 dates remaining on his 2025 farewell tour, with the next one happening tomorrow night, Friday, August 22, at WWE SmackDown in Dublin, Ireland. Cena is currently slated to take on Logan Paul in his next match at WWE Clash in Paris, set to be held in France on August 31, which could be his final bout on European soil.
The official press release from NBC, announcing a new deal between WWE and Peacock, also had the blockbuster news about John Cena’s retirement match. It read, “Peacock will exclusively stream two nights of Saturday Night’s Main Events this year, with the first taking place on November 1. Additionally, Saturday Night’s Main Event on Dec. 13 will feature John Cena in his retirement match.”
John Cena gets advertised for newly announced WWE Wrestlepalooza PLE next month
Notably, Goldberg, who retired after losing to World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at the time in a title match last month, was far from happy about his final match in WWE taking place on Saturday Night’s Main Event instead of Premium Live Event (PLE) like SummerSlam or WrestleMania. While the show on that occasion was live on NBC with Goldberg’s retirement speech getting cut short due to time constraints, it probably won’t be the case in regards to John Cena due to exclusive streaming on Peacock.
Moreover, WWE recently announced a new PLE to be held in Indianapolis on September 20, called Wrestlepalooza, which will stream exclusively on ESPN as part of their new deal, and John Cena is currently advertised for it.
