With the Indian cricket team’s next assignment being the Men’s Asia Cup 2025, members of the side have started to report at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE)
in Bengaluru. Notably, the Asia Cup, a continental tournament, is scheduled to be played from September 9 to 28 in the UAE in T20 format.
Ahead of the marquee tournament, the members of the Indian team, including ODI captain Rohit Sharma, red-ball captain Shubman Gill, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, among others have reported at the CoE in Bengaluru for fitness and pre-season tests. Apart from them, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur were also present at the state of art venue for the fitness tests.
Shubman Gill named Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy for Men’s Asia Cup 2025
While there were concerns over Shubman Gill’s availability for the continental tournament after he was down with illness and was recovering in Chandigarh, he is reportedly said to be fit for the upcoming tournament. Earlier this month, Gill was named Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy for the Asia Cup 2025 after taking over the red-ball reins from Rohit Sharma after latter’s retirement.
Speaking of the fitness tests, while Rohit and Siraj are not part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad, the duo will undergo grueling training at the CoE. Among other cricketers from the Asia Cup squad, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan have also reported to CoE. The trio will be seen playing the Duleep Trophy semi-finals with their respective sides whereas the likes of Harshit rana, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav are already featuring in the domestic cricket tournament.
